Aloha all...
I'm still going through all my storage boxes, photographing what I want to save and then putting some of the photos in the Artmails. All those old art ideas were OK...I could continue now painting on some to a finish, but for what reason.? It's possible that someone looking through the Artmails may actually want to have a particular piece. If that person contacts me by email and makes an offer I find difficult to refuse (funding for AlohaRangs travel expense budget used to produce this website), I may budget my time to do it.
But, the Artrang below is not one that I want to let go. Over five years ago, I made that decision after receiving an offer. I was living indoors at the time I painted it. I wanted to see if I could paint the Polihale scene on a boomerang. Succeeding would be an indication to me that I could paint various Polihale scenes much larger on canvas...and, maybe, sell them. I passed my personal test with this unfinished Artrang, but did not select the painting-on-framed-canvas pathway of most artists. (I've taken a lot of Polihale photos, though).

I was living in the Lawai cottage below when I painted this Artrang in 1993:

In 1990 or 1991, I painted the scene below on a leftover piece of foamcore. A sudden shower happened when I was about finished resulting a an intense double rainbow right over the two peaks. I commented that if I painted the double rainbow into the picture, it would look too unreal and could not paint its iridescence.

It's the 18th, already. Last Tuesday, was the one day a month that I drive to Lihue for supplies. It was also a day to visit Dallas and take a swim in Po'ipu after a delicious lunch prepared "effortlessly" by Dallas. Here are some photos:

OK...Here's what's happening...I'm living my dream. I imagined living by a beach on a remote tropical Polynesian island connected with the whole world via the Internet. I signed up for Google Earth when it first came out. The whole planet is at my finger tips. I can "travel" while physically remaining in my paradise. When I read something in the online news, I can choose to visit that place via satellite. I must average an hour and a half when I get on it. Also, I've checked the book below out of the library and it requires a lot of heavy reading time:
...
......
Captain James Cook's 3rd voyage had just started that 1776 summer and Ben Franklin arrived in France that winter.
...
Most of my readings have concerned the Pacific and Polynesia in particular. Now, from this book, I am learning so much about what that aspect of European culture was like in late 18th century. I had never read any detail about Franklin's role in the American Revolution. He was in my age group...70 years old in 1776 which adds interest. I am enjoying this reading, but it takes up a lot of my time...especially when I get on Google Earth to get close up views of what that part of France and its buildings and roads look like today. It's amazing. (I haven't gotten on it yet, today).
Also, calling for my time is the last and unfinished Artrang I started. It's time to finish it and give it to Brian S.

A bad hot oil burn happened to my right hand last Monday. I'm taking a break from doing a lot of different projects for a while. I'll be doing a lot more reading without feeling guilty about it. Doug, The Wildduck from Australia, will be visiting in October. There will be more exciting photos then.

Yesterday's bandage. It's really ugly under there.
