Changes in the Polivan plan: On the morning I was loading the Polivan, Kolo introduced me to a man who had a 1988 Plymouth Voyager with no reverse gear. He wanted to buy the Polivan mainly for the transmission. I had already made up my mind about setting up the Polivan at Polihale, so I said "No, thank you...I have plans with the van" and continued loading it with what I was taking to Polihale.
As I drove out to Polihale, I didn't give much thought to the offer to buy the van that I could no longer store...until I started worrying about whether the van was going to make the trip in to Polihale. The front end is in several different kinds of bad shape...and makes noise as I drive fairly slow. If it completely broke down, I'd have to pay to have it towed to the wreckers. I would really be angry with myself for not getting rid of the van when I had a chance. The offer was an opportunity that I hadn't expected. Should I have taken it?
The van did make it into Polihale. As I was checking the park's camping areas, Clifford saw me and said two Polihale campers from long ago were in camp area 2. I stopped by to talk story...I was talking about my original Polivan plan and CouchSurfing and Australia travels with Doug who goes there a lot as part of his job with United and he golfs during his free 55 hours.

I slept in the Polivan that night. Early in the morning I started thinking of the extra effort that I would be putting on myself having the Polivan here at Polihale. Eventually, I would have to dispose of the van. Anyway, I weighed the pros and cons and decided to drive the van back to Kekaha and see if the man still wanted to take the van. I will revise my CouchSurfing profile after updating this website.
Now the van is waiting to be picked up by it's new owner.

What about the CouchSurfers?
I have the couch (below) that makes into a bed. I also have a futon, two tents, tarps, camp stove and some other items that can be used by CouchSurfers while camping.
When I travel, I often stay in backpacker accommodations. Most backpackers, when traveling, do not carry camping equipment. Polihale is a camping paradise. There are Kaua'i visitors who first stayed in hotels, but after a Polihale camping experience, decide that for their next Kaua'i vacation, they will not stay in a hotel, but buy necessary camping supplies and stay at Polihale instead. It is much less expensive.
What I will provide for one or two CouchSurfers is my couch and futon for the first and last nights in 15B. I have the basic camping supplies for a stay at the Polivan spot or the State Park. CouchSurfers will get introductions to many of the Polihale People and good local information.
