I'm working on this page on the 16th to have ready to put online tomorrow. I didn't go to Polihale as I had planned this past weekend. For one thing, it rained and I didn't want to deal with what was going to be a very slippery, muddy road. But, it's hard for me to get used to spending so much time indoors. I have so much to do here and keep plenty busy. I have been wanting to paint, but haven't gotten to it. I have been working on putting some travel photos online and that's activating the travel bug in me.
I mentioned in Artmail 55 that I wanted to start a Circle Pacific flight package early in 2004.
The air fares are seasonal, subject to change and exclude taxes...the package that I'm considering will cost me about $2000 in air fares. I would start it in Los Angeles >(Tahiti) > Cook Islands > Christchurch > Brisbane > Bangkok > Hong Kong > ending either in Los Angeles or in Honolulu (if I can work a deal). Add $200 for a stop in Tahiti, if I decide. I would have a year to complete the package, but would take only two or three months.
So...I haven't been painting palm frond faces fast enough to sell the way that I thought I could earn the funds for the safari. I have some of the original Polihale Palm Frond Face masks that I am going to try an experiment with.

Dallas and Gilbert's dog, Mo'o, died of old age last week. They had left for New York about a week before. I remember Mo'o from before Hurricane Iniki in 1992, but I'm not sure just how old she was. She was a good friend. (Mo'o means lizard in Hawaiian). I'll miss her. Pirate Ray had a "wake" for her last Saturday.

This is a mask with eye-holes. I was taking it to a show with some others and a piece of paint chipped off. I put the band-aid on it then. It will be repaired.

This is one I carved before it was dry. I didn't finish painting it. It is a blend between Hawaiian and Rarotongan styles. Maybe it's a Kona-style Kanaloa/Tangaroa image. I'm going to finish painting it.
