Aloha, all...
While I have been waiting for the camera, among other things, I finished that Captain Cook book, Cook by Nicholas Thomas and am about half finished with Hawaiian Natural History, Ecology, and Evolution by Alan Ziegler. I had taken ecology courses about fifty years ago. Reading Ziegler's book has certainly updated my knowledge. It's like studying a new text, but one which focused on the place of my interest...Hawaii. Anyway, it's a well-written book and I've been giving it a lot of my time.
In February and April of 1999, I was in California. The photos that I took are not nearly as good as the 750Z had been taking up until now. (I wonder if there will be a big a difference between the 750Z and the 850Z). Here are the old web pages edited:

Two California Trips
In February and in April 1999, I flew to California for two short, busy trips. This first photo is of Ventura, where I was born and spent the first 12 years of my life:

Ventura coastline shot from near The Cross.

About 12 miles away, Ojai is the town where I used to be a biology teacher at Nordhoff High School. Here is a photo of its main drag:
...
Ojai...(pronounced Oh-hi).

Some closer looks....That's the post office on the right.

Scott and Tommy in Libby Park near Ojai's "Old Jail"...

... and me at the Ojai Bowl.

An interesting tree.

......
Scott has performed several times in the Ojai Bowl. Scott and Tommy were on stage this day.

My cousin, Dale, and I went to The Grapevine jazz club near Los Angeles during both of my trips. I took my digital camera and below are some of the photos (not necessarily in order).
About the only problem that I've had with my Epson 500 pc digital camera is that the battery case lid sags and the circuit through the batteries is broken sometimes if I don't remember to press up on it with my thumb until the photo is processed. That's what happened to the first three or four photos taken at "Rocco's," a jazz club near where Dale lives. Two photos, including Rocco's, weren't in the camera when I downloaded.....(I now have a new Epson 750z for the next time).
Just about the time we were getting ready to leave for the "Grapvine," a friend of Dale's whom he hasn't seen in about five years came in....we had another drink there which caused us to miss a set at the Grapevine. Here's a photo of Mira, a graphic artist from Santa Monica....I can't remember who's album cover she did.

Mira
...
She wanted to go to the Grapevine with us, so we followed her to where she parked her car, then she joined us for the ride there.

Some of the following photos were taken the other time I was here. The Grapevine is a Japanese jazz club.

The owner of the club is the drummer in the band.

Our waitress, Saya.

The band shot from where I sat the first time here:

The bar.

Back to the band photos (I'm sorry, I know the names of only two members):

John Heard.
...
Bass player John Heard, is a man of many talents...a true artist.

John and I talked story a while about art and other interests. He told me that he just started a wood carving and brought it out . The camera's flash didn't help the only photo I took of it.
...
A wood carving started...
...
...a painting finished. (Excuse the flash spot).
...
I messed with the image to get that awful white flash spot out of there. (John...excuse the liberty, please). Check it out:
...
That's better.
...
John sculpted the first bust of Duke Ellington.....the photo of a copy taken through the glass case from an angle to avoid the flashback as in the photo above:

...
I was wondering what John is doing now. I did a search on the Internet and came up with this fine article about John as of July 2004.
...
Ray in a contemplative mood.

I did a search for Ray Armando and came up with this album and story:
...
My cousin, Dale, happy sharing his haunts.
...
From three of the above photos, I made these FiberPrint postcards:
