Aloha all...

It has continued to be raining a bunch on Kaua'i. It has been good for reading and painting on the PFP Greenbacks while coming up with ideas. First, here are a few photos:

My project, the PFP Greenbacks, is moving along, but there are diversions. I decided that I wanted to paint a 5x7 inch cocopalm fiber on both sides the way I was doing with the greenbacks. I prepared the fiber and applied two coats of gesso on both sides. I was thinking of doing opposite views at Polihale and I started putting another coat to the areas which would become features when I applied the acrylics.

While doing this, I was thinking about my daughter's art. Lorilyn has done beautiful drawings on various things from toilet paper rolls to boomerangs. I thought that some of her drawings would lend themselves to two-view fiber art, one from each side.

Here is one of her drawings that I thought would be fairly easy for me to do a both-sides view in the voice balloon of her PFP Greenback (No. 18):

So, off went that 5x7 inch fiber I prepared along with a larger piece of cocopalm fiber...cleaned and ready to start on. These were sent with her Greenback and a Kauai Magazine with hopes that she will experiment with her art and cocopalm fiber.

Now I had to prepare another 5x7 inch cocofiber for me to use.

From this piece of cocofiber I will make two PF Greenbacks and one 5x7 inch two-side painting.

That's as far as I got on that project. I took a drive to Lihue for supplies on the 20th.

Then stopped to visit with Dallas and Gilbert on the way back. They had really had a flood on their property from all the rain and a lot of trash had accumulated for them to get rid of. I decided not to take photos of the farm...too muddy. But, I did take a shot of the moon and one of Pirate Ray who was working with the plants:

When we were sitting in the umbrella's shade talking story, I remembered the PFP Greenbacks that I was going to give them. One for Gilbert & Dallas and one for Pirate. We had been talking about Chinese characters and I mentioned the raw silk happy coats (Dallas says "hoppy coats") that I bought for my daughters in Hong Kong back in 1978. I think one had the character for "Happiness" and the other character for "Peace?" Dr. Dallas, our expert on all things Chinese, made one on my envelope (Music & dance & joy & happiness).

I thought it would be different to put a Chinese word in the voice balloon on their Greenback...Dallas chose "dance." First she did it the way she "writes" (to the left). Then in the middle, the standard way and then to the right, the older character for dance. We also talked about putting petroglyphs in the Greenbacks' word balloons. There's Pirate Ray's "dance" which is more like a petroglyph.

It takes up a lot of time to paint so I'm not spending time with photos. Also, when friends come over, I stop what I'm doing and talk story. It sure is nice living and working in my paradise. I also had a nice ride to Polihale in a friend's pickup, but I didn't take my camera. You will just have to believe that it was beautiful...as usual.
