Aloha, all,
What happened on Friday was that it started raining as I was uploading the edited web pages. The server was really slow and then sometimes, after an image that had been successfully transferred, it would be cancelled or blocked by the FTP and not be stored causing me to start over. Heavy rains kept happening so I knew that I wasn't going to make it out to Polihale. I went to the Russian Fort...my work/sleep place across the Waimea River from Waimea Town.
......
.....
The fort shot from my van behind the rest rooms.........My work place from the fort...my deck lid is up.
...
It's a good place to work because I'm pretty much out of sight and don't have a lot of interruptions.
All day Saturday I stayed there and I slept there. I did things Easter Morning and then I drove to Kekaha to talk story with Kolo. When I left Kolo's, I was going to stop at a park pavilion and charge four AA batteries using the electricity provided. (Russian Fort has no electricity...which is fine for me). But the front end of my van (which is way out of alignment and (for me) unfixable...$$$) really started acting up. So much so that I didn't want to stop anywhere...I just hoped to make it back to Russian Fort...please please please. I did...whew!
So, at Russian Fort I am staying and working until tomorrow when I will drive into Waimea and then on to Tashi's house in Kekaha to get this stuff online. I sure hope the van makes it. I would like to buy another van just like this one when enough bucks arrive. Right now the van is my biggest worry...I can't have my home broken down by the side of the highway.
What I want to get up this week is my Purple Feather People art project. (This is a killer of an idea). I want to try to explain it to you people before I make the actual web pages. Also, Mana stopped by, as did a bunch of other Polihale Ohana who were passing by, but Mana wanted me to photograph the latest of his Turtle Castles made up of dead coral and many shells from Polihale (Queen's Pond area).

I will be having a Mana page on my web site with some photos of his product later on when I get time to do it.
Below are the first three of the Purple Feather People:

See the one on the left? That's the April Fool...I finished it on April Fool's Day. Clifford, who is also the caretaker of Russian Fort, brought me four more of the 12 palm fronds that I shaped and dried last fall and stored at Cane Top in Polihale. The one on the right is the first one that I painted with the Purple Feather People design and colors. OK, the feather is painted deep violet, not purple (for those who would know the difference), but Violet Feather People doesn't flow right and violet is too close to violent and the Purple Feather People are anything but violent.
I have only a few acrylic colors to choose from and some like cobalt blue are almost gone. I decided to not mix any of the colors (except the red and white to make the pink of the tongues) and to sort of use the colors of the rainbow, white and black. The only green that I have is a German acrylic called brilliant green. So I have a red, orangish face. yellow, green, blue and violet...no indigo.
Now the guy in the middle is Number One...the main man of the Purple Feather People. As you can see, he looks a quite a bit more human than the others. But he's really a painted, tiki-like carving...heh heh...a very little bit of actual carving, but he will be painted to look like a carving. I'll be working on him for a long time...as Kolo does with his carvings. Later on, when I have a Kolo page, you will see some of the similarities.

One of Kolo's Hanapepe Champagne is going through a radical change. This was taken a month ago.

BUSTED! Just ten minutes ago. Kipi Akana, one of the DNLR rangers came to the storeroom where I was typing this and told me I have to get out and not to go behind the restrooms anymore or sleep in this park. This morning, just before the sun came up, Bob, an old Japanese guy who is about to retire from the maintainence supervisory position he holds, came to where I was fixing coffee and breakfast and grumbled to me some. He said that I'm not supposed to "live here." Clifford arrived just after Bob left. Clifford said that he has no authority to kick me out, but being the kind of person he is, will probably report me to the rangers. Sure enough, he did.
So, now I'm still at Russian Fort but under the trees in the parking area. Akana came by again said that someone originally called and said that I was cooking breakfast here so Akana said that I wasn't supposed to do that. He also wanted to check my safety check and registration which are still valid. He had called into the office after telling me to move and a ranger there said that he had written me up already for those violations and to check it out. The ranger was lying, of course...an excuse to see if I could be hassled some more. He also told me that I couldn't have any of my artwork on display or sell it. I told him that was part of the reason that I was hidden so that I wouldn't attract visitors who would ask "how much?" I told them Oroc, another ranger, already warned me about selling and that's why I hid away. I said that these are for sale on eBay not here. He said that I couldn't tell visitors that or give them my web URL because that is advertizing. I guess some people are jealous of some one enjoying themselves and accomplishing something in paradise while they have to do a regular workday job. Akana was surprised at my age and I said, "Yeah, the DNLR likes to make it hard on senior citizens, it seems."
I was setting up my table when he arrived again and said that I was going to cook soup on it for lunch later, and he didn't say I couldn't do that...He made a comment like, "Well, I guess we can't let you starve" before he drove off. I guess now I'll sleep by the Kekaha small boat harbor...there are restrooms and water there. It's also a long block from Tashi's house.
I'm using up my battery typing this, so in the emails I send, I'll mainly make a reference to this page.

Back to the Purple Feather People: I am going to paint a total of 99 palm frond faces in this project. Through eBay and in person, people can order one of the PFP's and reserve a number not taken making a $50 deposit at that time. I will paint the PFP's in order received and when completed, the buyer will send the balance of $50 and I will send the completed PFP to where ever. Each will be photographed before, during and after painting and the completed numbers will appear on pages in my web site. After all 98 PFP's have been sold, I will have a private eBay auction for Number One. Each PFP will be a very unique collectors item. My battery is running out...I gotta go now.
