Aloha all...
One of the many projects that I'm going to have to continue is going through the things that I have accumulated and stored in boxes scattered in and about 15B. I was just starting that project when I had to decide what I was going to do with all those cocopalm fibers that I saved from my former cocopalm tree. Well, you know where that is going...Greenbacks. There's a fork in that road, too...Eyes Greenbacks...more about this later.
...
...
Anyway, I looked in a box and there was a sort of photo album that I had back in the 1990's.
...
When I opened it, I found the "missing" photo booklet of some of my early art projects...some boomerang art and The Sandbox Dance Floor.
...
.........
...
I haven't looked at any of the other photos, yet. I wanted to digitally photograph those photos and put them on this webpage. Would you believe...people were dancing on my art work. (Some other Hanapepe artists added objects in the sand).
I didn't have a camera that worked at that time, so I bought one of the disposable kind and took the following photos except for some that Henk from Holland shot:
...

The Aloha Wagon at Niumalu Park...my home on wheels back then.
...
Dean and Puka John at Polihale.
...
Puka John and Clifford.
...
Henk shot and sent me this one and more.

Boomerang Art about 15 years ago...by Henk.
...
I was doing this kind of boomerang art, then.
......
In July of 1991, I went to the Big Island for two weeks and camped in a cave at Hapuna Beach. The middle of that two weeks was the 11th...the morning of the total eclipse. A total eclipse is exciting. I flew 15 boomerangs and caught them durning the eclipse. I wasn't so hypnotized by that big eye in the sky...I was able to observe the horizon all around. In the direction of the eclipse there was construction going on, no ocean scene...that was behind me. I used "artistic license" and put my wave in the eclipse scene that I painted on those 15 artrangs. Henk took this photo of some:

Henk van Dongen here, and here (near the bottom of pages),from Holland, took these photos.
...
The Polihale Wahine was half a diptych...photo by Henk.
...
The right half was the view of Makaha Point continued on the beach. These boomerangs were shaped in Australia. I sanded them and put on three coats of polyurethane. The customs people said that I should stamp each boomerang "Made in Australia." I wanted to show that I increased the value of the imported boomerangs more than 51%; therefore, I should not have to stamp them that way. I included the Makaha Point part of this diptych as an example and asked that it be returned. After a while, I got the OK not to put "Made in Australia" on the boomerangs, but they were going to keep the artrang "on file." That was OK with me...I know where it's supposed to be. (Also, the wahine was from Chicago with short hair and a black thong, but she did learn to fly the boomerang).
...

Sandy's dreambar...The Sandbox. Kolo painted the sign.
...
Dean had given me the paint brushes, Sandy bought the paint and beer. I took the photos before the Grand Opening.
...
...
...
The dance floor marked off as 10 X 15 feet as the permit said. I signed it with that boomerang.
...
Sandy got word to me at Polihale that he wanted me to paint a sand box for his dance floor. I could do it however I wanted.
...
I painted the sign, Max Rays painted the flowers.
...
Recognize that song?...That's right, "Mister Sandman build me a dream.."
...
There's my bucket.
...
I think this was Dawn's sea star.
...
Dawn's hermit crab, my bucket, Giorgios coconuts, my palm shadow.
...
My signature Artrang.
...
Another view.
...
Those were my footprints.
...
My sand castle. A few weeks after the opening, I saw a sand castle just like it at Polihale. :o)
...
As I said, they were dancing on my art in Hanapepe.
...
The Kekaha Brothers provided the music.
...
Kolo's son, David, in the middle.
...
I was glad to find these photos. They brought back a lot of good memories.
