Aloha all...

I'm going to start out with some photos of a sort of "Transplant Ohana Thanksgiving." Everyone at Dallas' Farm Thanksgiving Day celebration was a transplant from someplace on the mainland, who has "taken root" and is now part of the 'aina of Kaua'i. Our respective families, thousands of miles away, may be sharing feasts, aloha and gossip.

For most mainlander family members, Thanksgiving might be one of the few time a year they see each other. But it's different with Kauai island "transplants"...though it may be once every several years that one would venture onto the mainland in winter for whatever traditional celebration, on Kaua'i it's another reason for a party with our Ohana...extended family. Actually, we see each other at different times all through the year, we live on a small island, but it's good to get together and share our Aloha on special days. It feels good.

Anyway, Doctor Dallas is on her Sabbatical from Queens College in New York, so she can have Thanksgiving here this year, then not for another five years. Gilbert is in Queens because he's working, but he can see these photos.

Dallas..."Hostess with the mostest."

Most of the people here are Kalalau Valley veterans. There's Kalalau Steve behind Dallas. Here he is up front...

Thankgiving is also a work day for farmer Pirate Ray...

Pirate the farmer is still a biker...since he was a kid.

I have photos from a safari through Pirate's Hanapepe Valley Farm...it's something else. I'll put some of the photos in an Artmail one of these months. Going back in time...

An out-of-focus peek at my first helping...Everything was ono.

Greg M, the bodysurfer, arrived with a green salad for my second helping.

Dean gets some braids.

After eating, we go outside and relax, listen to the sounds, talk story and enjoy living on Kaua'i while being thankful all the time.

We moved back inside when a drizzle happened and continued one until after dark. We had a fun time. Mahalo, Dallas.

November 29th: One of the many nice things about living in Kekaha is that Polihale Beach is only about a dozen miles away. On about any day, I could drive out to Polihale for the day or camp and enjoy. But, I have several time-consuming projects including doing some painting on cocofiber. I plan on doing some traveling from March into May of 2006 (about which I will talk about later), but there is a lot that I have to do in 15B before that happens. Anyway, here are some Polihale photos...

This was on the 12th...Veterans Day weekend.

Behind me is the Cubby Hole...there's Greg B and Sue...Bobby and Tommy out swimming. (Photos in here too dark).

...

I went down to the ocean and played in the surf a bit. Every once in a while I decide to take one of my "signature self-photos."

Before and after. (See the burn scars on my boomerang flying hand).

Can you locate the entrance to the Cubby Hole?

It's December 1st. I'll add photos from when we went out to Polihale with Dallas.

It's too rough for swimming and dangerous to stand as close.

The next morning, the target missile (which was hit in the test), was launched and I saw it from the start as I was driving...before I heard it. I stopped the car and got this shot.

...

...The target missile was launched from PMRF.

...

I like the way my current painting project is progressing. Anyway, that's all for this Artmail.

Aloha, Art
