Aloha all...
I am going to continue posting some of my Scripps Institution of Oceanography cruise photos in this page and in Artmail 155c. I will post current digital photos in Artmail 155d.
That Paolina-T cruise wasn't an exciting cruise, but it was my first and I didn't have to worry about seasickness. I didn't take many photos with my Brownie Hawkeye. This is a good place to put some of the photos from that time period (October 1956 to April 1957. The month and year the photos were developed is on the print). The Marine Life Research (MLR) cruises were usually about a month apart. Below is a chart showing the pattern of observation stations made by each of the research vessels for the California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations (CCOFI).

Depth allowing, a 200 meter net tow was done at each station. At each hydrographic station, Nansen reversing water bottles...

...containing special thermometers that record the temperatures, would collect a sample of sea water at a particular depth for oxygen and salinity analysis. The original data was checked and rechecked at each station and recorded on original data sheets...

I saved more samples from that job, but I really want to post cruise photos rather than photos of obsolete data forms etc.

My second cruise was my first hydrographic cruise and it was on the RV Orca...
......
I shot this photo of the Orca from the Paolina-T during my first cruise.
......
The 101 feet long Orca was a whaler before and that's where the harpoon gun was mounted.

I got the Nansen bottles out of the lab, the other marine tech, in the bucket, attaches the bottle and messinger onto the cable.

Leaving Cedros Island. I thought I took some photos in the village, but I didn't find any.

Natividad Island.
I think this is the other end of Natividad Island.
......
Those are all the photos I found from that Orca cruise. Next, the Sea of Cortez cruise on the Black Douglas.
