It's April 5th - 7th. The drawings for PFPs will be determined as each series of Greenbacks is completed and sold out. I'll be painting two Greenbacks for each PFP in the running just to get them started. I will be able to do the painting of more in each series as the ones already painted are sold. It's going to take some time, but I'm in no big hurry. I'll have a suitcase of Greenbacks when I finish if none sell. Doesn't matter, their value will appreciate through time. Cocopalm fiber is fun to paint on...I wonder when some "real" artists are going to give it a try. I've scattered some "seeds" that may germinate in time.

PFP 28 will be the next one to have a PF Greenback series:

It's March 27th. Here are some reasons for the revisions I'm the making in the Kanaloa PF Greenback raffle:

Painting cocopalm fiber as I do is unique and the Greenbacks make interesting and different Artist Trading Cards.

Each Greenbacks is an original painting...acrylic on gesso on cocopalm fiber.

As I learn "tricks-of-the-trade" with my painting of Greenbacks, the product has improved.

The first drawing is for a choice of a Purple Feather Person palm frond face. There will be twenty-five numbers representing Kanaloa PF Greenback Numbers 21 through 45. Each Greenback will have a 1 out of 25 chance of winning custody of one of these PFPs for its owner. Those are pretty good odds for a raffle.

The raffle ticket (the Greenback) retains value even if it is not the winner...it's not to be thrown away.

The whole plan is to sponsor this website, boomerangart.com. I imagine that it might even be a tax writeoff for a business.

As I continue painting Greenbacks, the trading value of the Greenbacks from past drawings should increase.

These little pieces of original art, 2-1/2 X 3-1/2 inches) have a history which is already documented on the Internet in this website.

Instead of six Kanaloa PF Greenbacks selling at US$25 each, I'm going to make it ten Greenbacks at $25. Once potential collectors see and handle any of the Greenbacks, they should realize that any of these Greenbacks are worth more than $25. My intention is to generate $1000 sponsorship money from each of the ten PFPs selected in the ten different raffles. So, PF Greenback Numbers 21 through 30 will be sold for $25 each and PF Greenback Numbers 31 through 45 will sell for $50. It may take a long time to get the first batch of sponsors, but I'm not in any desparate hurry.

The second drawing will include PF Greenback numbers 46 through 66 and they will have PFP 24's face on them. These Greenbacks will be sold for US$50 each and each will have a 1 out of 20 chance of winning a PFP. Here's what the head side is going to look like:

...

Something like this. See PFP 24... HERE.

These cocopalm fibers came from a special coconut palm from the Polynesian island of Kaua'i. Each PF Greenback is saturated with Aloha.

It's March12th. I'm going to put photos of the PF Greenbacks I'm working on now. Most have not been numbered, yet. When I have completed the backs I will put them on this page for sponsors.

Not many people even checked Greenback No. 26 on ebay. That was a quick experiment that showed me I should just sell the sponsor raffle tickets through my own website.

It's March 10th. The auction is pau. Kanaloa PF Greenbacks may be purchased from this page for sponsors.

Originally, I was going to include PF Greenbacks numbers 1 through 20 in the first drawing, but now I will not. Those 20 were for birthdays and whatever gifts to friends and relatives...Ohana. But, I don't have to get those done before I have the drawing. So...There will be a separate drawing among those Twenty much later on.

I'm going to start from scratch for numbers 21 to 60, if this series goes that far. The first ebay PF Greenback auction will start in a few days. It will be for this one:

As I continue painting the Greenbacks, I realize that to do them properly takes a lot of time. There's not much in the way of shortcuts available. The Greenbacks are all original works of art...mine. I am using my art to produce this website. I'm pretty sure that I am the first to use the Internet in this way...as a traveler exchanging art for travel expenses via soliciting sponsors for a free educational travel website...boomerangart.com. Yes, I have the credentials to produce an "educational" website. I taught high school science in California for twenty years and have a 1970 Education MA in curriculum development and a California Life Teaching Credential. Now that I am retired, I have only one student...me. But others may learn, at their own option, by looking over my shoulder, so to speak, to follow the continuities within this website. The Artmails with photos start in 2002. I started making these simple webpages in 1998, but before the website totalled only 5 MBs each time (I have many of them saved).

Making a bunch of money and acquiring a lot of material possessions is not my goal. I'm living in my paradise already. I like the lifestyle in Polynesia where having a lot of money is not so important. Money is only a medium of exchange which, in my opinion, happens to have much more power than the concept deserves. I'm not on a "power trip." Not much money is needed to create a happy life. I've proved that to myself, already. But, to obtain the jet flights to distant places does take more than a little bit of extra money. Thus, the Purple Feather People raffle off.

These raffle tickets, the PF Greenbacks, will not lose value after the drawing has taken place. I do not think the owners will toss them away even if they lose the lottery. No matter what, PF Greenbacks are winners. The prize, (choice of one out of 19 Purple Feather People) probably doesn't have any value other than being a unique piece of art on a Polihale palm frond base. If a tourist asked me how much I wanted for one and I answered "One thousand dollars," I would be sure to get a hearty laugh.

With this experiment, I plan to obtain a total of $1000 from sponsors to use for the production of my boomerangart.com website. I know that each of the PF Greenbacks is easily worth more than $25. I am willing to paint 40 of them to obtain the $1000. My objective is to get at least $1000 placed in the sponsors' "website and travel expenses" account, not paint 40 PF Greenbacks to do it. I will paint the Greenbacks five-at-a-time, then auction those five. These first five will be auctioned on ebay. (I'm "boomerangart" there, too). From those five auctions, the AlohaRangs of Hawaii account will receive a certain amount of cash. Then I will auction the next five, one-at-a-time. If the $1000 objective is reached after auctioning only 30 PF Greenbacks, I will then have the drawing before a notary public. The Purple Feather Person selected will then be shipped to the raffle winner anywhere the mail goes. If there are only 30 Greenbacks out, each would have a 1 out of 30 chance of winning.

The next Purple Feather People raffle off will be for a PFP that I select. The front of its PF Greenbacks for that raffle will have a portion of that PFP's face instead of Kanaloa's. The Greenback numbers will continue on so that later on, the numbers will be in the hundreds, (but not too many, I hope). I don't want to put as much time painting Greenbacks later on as I am now. I have a lot of other things to enjoy on Kauai...and I don't plan on painting when traveling.

If someone who has plenty of money to throw around, likes and wants to own one particular Purple Feather Person, and is willing to pay $1000 for it, I will not sell it outright. The PFP will have its minimum of five PF Greenbacks painted by me. That person could win all five auctions and automatically win the PFP.

I plan on starting the ebay auction for PF Greenback No. 26 within a week. I haven't been to ebay for quite a while and will have to learn about changes there, first.

It's February 27th. I am going to head in a different direction with the PF Greenbacks...it's a "fork in the road"...one tine leads into a more Polynesian-based reality. (Before "contact" with Europeans, Polynesian cultures did not have the concept of money. Red feathers were valuable, but mainly status-wise). My fictional safari through various realities with the Purple Feather People will be made up by me...or let's say it comes from a Talking Stick.

Advice from Yogi about forks in the road..."Take it!"

And from Kanaloa, too..."Let's hele."

On with Kanaloa's Safari with his Purple Feather Greenbacks:

.....

Some background:

.....

Kaua'i is my island paradise. I'm beach person and my beach is a long one...about 13 miles on the Westside of Kaua'i. I've lived and live at both ends of it. Kaua'i is the northernmost inhabited island in Polynesia. Have a look:

..........

Kaua'i

The arrow points to Polihale...Kekaha is at the other end of the beach.

.....

Yes, Kekaha is "The Place." And Kekaha Ha'aheo is "Pride of The Place." I now live in Kekaha Ha'aheo 15B. Before, back between 1995 and 2000, I lived in Kekaha Ha'aheo 9C and I had a coconut palm from which I obtained the cocofiber that I am using for the Kanaloa PF Greenbacks:

.....

Kekaha Ha'aheo 9C in the 90s.

I had my studio in the parlor of 9C:

(The unfinsished dolphin window blinds had to be photographed at night...daylight coming through makes the artwork disappear).

If you go back to that row of boomerangs on the left, you will see a Talking Stick.

A Talking Stick.

I painted it on the cut-off end of a walking stick made by Tattoo Aaron after Iniki at Tumu Nu. (See above - three boomerangs on it).

Kanaloa is a Talking Stick. A talking stick may be used in Polynesia to receive "communications from ancestor spirits"..."advice from the past," so to speak.

What was done before is on this page. As of the 21st, I had these Purple Feather Greenbacks completed this far:

.....

.....

Today is the 24th and here is where I am with the next 2-1/2 X 3-1/2 inch Purple Feather Greenbacks:

.....

But, I've already decided to make some changes in the planning of this project...(I'm not going to go back and change what I've already put in earlier Artmails). My basic plan is to acquire the funding for my boomerangart.com website's expenses including transportation and accommodation expenses when traveling in order to take the photographs which will appear in these pages. At the present time, AlohaRangs of Hawaii is the only Sponsor...it's my old boomerang company (that has not been selling boomerangs for a long time). My plan is to fund a "website travel account" with AlohaRangs with which I will be able to use a bank's ATM card or check to pay for the above kinds of expenses...there will be a record of all of those expenses. I will receive no salary, but will continue to publish these web pages for anyone to enjoy...free of charge or and free of commercial ads.

I will be auctioning five Kanaloa PF Greenbacks on ebay as a test.

My goal is to eventually generate US $1000 from Sponsors for each of the ten Purple Feather People. I have put a value of at least US $25 for each Greenback. (40 X $25 = $1000). I plan to start the bidding on each PF Greenback at $24.99. (I'll explain more about this part later).

The original Santa Hat Greenbacks numbers 10 through 20 will remain, but some will be changed to become Kanaloa PF Greenbacks (more work for me):

.....

This kind...

...and PF Greenbacks 21 through 25...

this kind will become...

.....

...this kind...Kanaloa PF Greenbacks!

.....

Instead of 50 Greenbacks for the drawing, I will have only a total of 40. That means the owner of each Greenback will have a 1 out of 40 chance to win the choice of one of these Purple Feather People (for keeps):

Painting Greenbacks on cocofiber is much easier than painting palm frond bases as Purple Feather People and more interesting for me. I don't know of any other painter who is painting on cocofiber (on both sides, much less) with acrylics. Each little fiber gets coated and protected with plastic. It feels 'good' to hold these cocofiber acrylic paintings. It's difficult to describe how or why...one just has to experience it, I imagine.

In the photo above taken earlier today, you can see some changes taking place in how I set up the fiber to begin painting. The two Greenbacks which, so far, are blank, look like this on the other sides:

.....

.............

(These Greenbacks are not cut to size, here).

.....

I guess I didn't really 'see' them while I was doing the painting. Up until now, I was selecting the 'best' place on the large piece of fiber to mark for the Greenback. On the above, I picked the natural center seam of the fiber for the placement of the purple feather. As you can see, I paid no attention to placing that seam and feather in the center of the Greenback. I didn't see how misplaced they were until I looked at them here. (I am learning a lot about techniques of painting on cocofiber with each Greenback, too). What I will do with the purple feather side of Greenbacks from now on is make sure the darker green corners form more of an oval (even better than the one on the left) and the feather rib will be straight and in the middle of the Greenback. Then, in the darker green corners, I'm going to paint little dollar signs ($) because, after all, these are 'greenbacks' which will generate the funding for the website expenses. (Airlines and accommodation people will not accept PF Greenbacks for payment).

.....

[This is where I'm going to stop for now, but I'll be revising and updating what I've done so far.]
