KAUI and KQNG are off the air. It's afternoon sometime, but with no clock and no radio and the sky dark and stormy, it's hard to guess. I'm parked in the spot I checked out early this morning behind the Eleele Big Save Shopping Center. In front of me is a tree with a big broken branch hanging down. Behind me is another tree, but if it falls, it will miss me. The Big Save cement block wall is six feet to my right as now I am sitting in the driver's seat. To my left, toward Ace Hardware, is the empty parking lot with about six medium-sized trees spaced around.
The car rocks and lifts like a boat at sea when the big gusts hit. Another big branch broke off the tree in front of me and blew about 20 yards. I'd better check the tree behind me again!
No, it's OK because its branches blow as far as the back of my car, but at about a 30 degree angle to my left.
The rainwater forms a film on the asphalt parking lot. The gusts of wind pick up little swirly feathery-shaped "clouds" of water off the asphalt. It's like being at sea, but the water spray is blown off a flat surface.
Another branch breaks off.
I last heard that the wind is gusting up to 180 miles per hour. It's a steady gust now. It's like I'm in a boat. The parking lot is full of branches to the front of me. I don't see any behind, but the wavelets are coming right at my rocking car from the direction of Ace Hardware. There's only one "flyable" metal sign in that direction and that's on the road - a road construction caution sign, but there are two of those parking lot trees lined up between it and me.
There's sort of a transformer or something with high-voltage to my left that would be dangerous if the electricity wasn't off. I think that if any of the wires or cables broke off, even at one end, they could not reach me.
A branch just flew by.
I would I just heard a big branch crack! I've gotta see where. Yeah. It was the tree behind me.
