I knew right where to find a photo of my station wagon "bedroom" taken from the main angle that Hurricane Iniki was striking the car during the first half of its 5-hour stay on Kauai. The photo was taken a couple of months after Iniki at one of the "secret" entrances to my camp…Tumu Nu at Polihale. I lived in there for about a year…it was like a dream.

I figured that the corner back frame of my Malibu would offer added protection from wind blown objects if I needed it. I'll get back to this later.

I had experienced two cubascos (hurricanes) at sea off Baja California while working as a marine technician with Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1957. I was on Maui during Hurricane Iwa in 1982.

In October of 1987, Scott MacD, Julie, and I had driven across the United States in his van. One of our intended destinations was Key West, Florida. By the time we got to Miami, a weak hurricane, named Floyd, was heading toward Key West. We camped one night on Key Largo, then continued on the causeway. Of course, all the traffic was heading away from Key West. We arrived at Key West first before the storm.
