Here is a photo of what I think is the controversial Millennium Monument that I read about in the online Cook Island News. There were complaints that the modern sculptural representations didn't follow sacred traditional forms for marae stones. The winners said that it's time to change with the new millennium.

The yellow building on the right is the National Museum....there is another building just like it on the left which is the National Library. Here is a shot of the National Museum. That brown log is really a huge slit drum.
.
This is the National Auditorium where, on Saturday nights, 'everyone' goes to dance.
.
In the cemetary by the Old Cook Islands Christian Church is the grave and monument for Sir Albert Henry, colorful former Prime Minister. When I was here in 1985, before the hurricane, the bust had Sir Henry's real eyeglasses on it.

Finally at Metua's.

That night and the next we ate on the deck at Trader Jack's seen in this quickly stitched together photo taken from Metua's.
.
At Metua's we found Nanette, an Australian and a wonderful source of information....for instance, none of my "partners" from 1985 are still on Rarotonga. There was scandal and sad stories not to be reiterated here. As I make this webpage, we have been at Metua's three times. These photos are from different visits.
